I need your help:
There is no light in Idomeni refugee camp. It’s hard to see anything during nighttime and refugees must sit and walk in the dark. To improve their living situation, I want to supply the people in the camp with flashlights.
If you want to support my „Lighten up Idomeni“ project, please write me a short e-mail (mail@davidlohmueller.com) and tell me what you are willing to donate. With all the money collected, I will buy cheap flashlights and batteries and will distribute them on monday 4/4/2016. Please share this post.

Bring color to your wall! For the last couple of months I have not only been taking my camera around the world but I have also spent a lot of time exploring my beautiful home country in Freiburg and the Black Forest. Now I am very happy to present my new 2016 photo calendars, that I have published recently. Enjoy! :)

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return. (Leonardo da Vinci)
Last week we went ballooning over the Black Forest. What a wonderful experience. Check out the best photos and a magical video of this great day trip with our Black Forest Young Explorers:

The heat is on! On the final day of our Young Explorers Camp it is getting really hot in the Black Forest. Needless to say, we need to find a way to cool down a bit. Here you can see the best photos and a really awesome video of our answer to the baking summer sun in Germany. Have fun!

Adventure Black Forest: I am currently working on a project in the recently founded Black Forest national park. The idea of the project which I have developed together with the film maker and my good friend Simon Straetker is to portray all four seasons in the national park with film and photography and to capture the beauty of this wonderful place in every possible way. Through our work we want to raise awareness for the necessity to protect this unique piece of nature and preserve our home environment. One of the main goals of this project is to reach out an encourage young poeple to experience the national park themselves and inspire them to take action. With this in mind and to kick things off we invited 16 teenagers to spend one week with us right in the middle of the Black Forest national park. Here you see the photo documentary of our “Young Explorers Camp”.

A look behind the scenes at the first-ever Afghan surf championships is what you see in the second part of my photo-documentary of a wonderful time in Portugal. For WRAA, one of the main goals besides creating a platform for Afghan wave riders to share their joy in the sport of surfing was to present the beauty of Afghanistan and its people to the public by offering a wide range of workshops in Afghan traditions. It was truly an inspiring experience to participate in this unique effort of cultural exchange. Thanks to all the amazing people that have made this whole event such a warm-hearted and cheerful celebration! I am already looking forward to our next encounter. Afghan surfing rules! :-)

A year ago my friend Afridun Amu told me about his plans to found an surf association for Afghanistan and to hold the first-ever Afghan surf championships. I was instantly enthusiastic about the idea: An event that could actually help to create some completely different and most of all positive news of a country which in our media is generally only related to war and terror – that sounded great! I immediately offered my support as a photographer if the event was ever to take place. Well now, almost one year after our conversation it actually did take place and I was right in the middle of it :-) Here is the first part of my photo documentary:

My final wave in Sri Lanka was captured by a drone! I love it :-) For a longer version and also some photos follow the link to our fun surf trip to Sri Lanka.

In case you ever wondered how many elephants fit into one whale, Sri Lanka is a good place to find out. Here you can get up close to both of the world’s largest living beings. In fact, Mirissa on the south coast of Sri Lanka is one of the best places in the world to go whale-watching around this time of the year. You can see them all: blue whales, fin whales, orcas – you name them!

Sun and Surfing in the Indian Ocean – without any e-mails, telephone calls and far away from the cold, snow and miserable weather in Europe – this is the one and only plan for my little winter escape in Sri Lanka. Of course I didn’t leave without my camera. So welcome to some these first impressions of this wonderful place:

I have arrived. At the end of a long and unforgettable journey, I am standing here in “Ende”, the same wonderful place that has once already marked the turning point of one of my most memorable and epic adventures. Eight years ago we tried to travel from Germany to Australia without a plane. We didn`t quite make it but in the end we could not have asked for a better and more worthy place to finish this trip, other than here in the heart of Flores – the flower of Indonesia – here in Ende.
